We do the preparation work. We cover each person’s goals, interests, strengths, barriers. We build motivation and confidence. We build a pathway with each person. We up-skill with licence or training. We also support you, and your new employee, for six months from start day.

Over the past two months we’ve placed people aged 18-24yrs in a wide range of industries. That’s the donut graph seen here. Small businesses. Big businesses. You name it, we do it.

How to hire your next employee:

  • Get in touch with Triple Summits. We welcome your inquiries and want to know more about you and what you’re looking for.
  • Tell us about your business. The more we know about you, the better we can match you with the right employee.
  • Be specific about what you need. We can prepare people for you.
  • Tell us about the daily tasks. What can your new employee expect to be doing?
  • Send us your forms. We’ll help your applicants fill them out and get them ship shape to ease your admin.
  • Getting your new employee started. We will assist with onboarding however you need.
  • Ongoing support. We will stay alongside you, and your new employee, providing pastoral care and ongoing support as you get to know each other.
  • Repeat. Each time you need people, we are here to support you.

We’re always adding employers to our network so let’s get in touch and let’s stay in touch.

We match people with jobs. Then we continue to support both employers and employees for six months. Thinking of hiring? Get in touch with Triple Summits!

Six top tips for working with youth

Six top tips for working with youth

I’m a youth coach. Paula Sanchez Paoli. That’s me on the left hand side. It’s a job I take very seriously. It’s also a privilege. What I do is rewarding because I’m committed to empowering young people. One of my favourite things to do with youth is to help them see themselves; I remind them of their potential. I help them lead their own future. My top tips are below.

I currently work with 16-21 year olds. They are all students – we call them ākonga. They have had their education negatively impacted by the pandemic and they’re at risk of disengaging. I work with a team at Triple Summits. We use a strengths-based approach to identify risk factors and barriers, then we work with ākonga to reduce these.

Here are my six top tips

1. Be present and attentive. Often ākonga really need to be heard. Take the time to listen to what they have to say. Ask questions!

2. Don’t label. There is a big difference between being disengaged from school and being a disengaged student. Try to understand where the behaviour is coming from, and tackle the behaviour, not the person.

3. Be consistent. It takes time to build trust in a relationship. Young people will test you before they are sure they can count on you. Be patient along the journey.

4. Be grateful for their trust. It takes courage to open up and ask for help.

5. Every step forward is a win. Take time to acknowledge their effort and progress.

6. Every goal achieved, small or big, is a step in the right direction.

BONUS TIP! Seek individuality. Each young person is different. Tailor your guidance to their specific circumstances.

Being a youth coach is a decision I make every day. It is a role that fulfils my eagerness to be an active participant in society. I am committed. I try my best to support youth. These six techniques have informed my personal code of ethics that I’ve built over time. I actively try to put these into practice with young people every day. It pays off.

“The relationships I’ve built, and the transformations I’ve seen, tell me that these techniques work”

Give them a go! They’re not just for students. Use them with your tamariki, whānau, friends and colleagues! Soon you’ll build your own top tips that work in your context.

About the Ākonga Pathway Programme

Triple Summits delivers a 12 week face-to-face mentoring service to ākonga who have been negatively affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. We are funded by the Ākonga Community Youth Development Fund through the Ministry of Youth Development, in partnership with the Ministry of Education. We are proud to support youth through all life situations, and all alert levels, to a brighter future.

Youth health and development

Youth health and development

Triple Summits prioritises training and development opportunities for its staff. Our mentors and youth coaches attended the recent Involve conference, both physically and virtually. The conference aims to offer Professional Development, Networking, Collaboration and Sector Celebration. It is run by four organisations from the wider youth health and development sector: Ara Taiohi, the NZ Youth Mentoring Network, SYHPANZ, and The Collaborative Trust.

The 2021 conference offered a broad selection of workshops, keynotes and breakout sessions and our team was able to access recordings of these afterwards too. Triple Summits Youth Coach Hikitia Tuoro enjoyed being at the Wellington conference saying it was good to meet other organisations and providers who care for youth. “There’s a growing voice and mana of youth in New Zealand and that’s good news.” Hikitia came away reassured about the positive influence that Triple Summits has in the youth sector.

“What we do, we do it well!

                                                                                                      Hikitia Tuoro – Triple Summits

Youth Week 2021 – “We’re Stronger Together”

Youth Week 2021 – “We’re Stronger Together”

Youth Week 2021 – Celebrating our youth and reflecting on the year that has been.

Youth week recognises the contribution youth make to their communities and inspires us to value, support and acknowledge the diversity of young people in our society. Youth week is a nationwide festival of events organised by rangatahi for rangatahi to celebrate their talents and achievements.

Events are normally designed to encourage young people to take on challenges, share ideas and focus on the positive aspects of being young. The week also recognises youth workers, youth service providers and others working with and for young people.

Youth Week is coordinated by Ara Taiohi, with the support of the Ministry of Youth Development – Te Manatū Whakahiato Taiohi. Every year there is a theme, this year’s theme is “We’re Stronger Together”

As a Youth Services provider we celebrate our youth’s diversity, achievements, and talents on a daily basis. However, Youth Week provides us with a fantastic opportunity to reflect and give a shout out to our youth. For this we are going to reflect on some of our highlights from the past year.

Zoom mentoring, a test of resilience and technology

Our rangatahi weren’t going to let lockdown restrictions stop them from achieving their goals! They rose to the challenge and worked with our mentors as we cycled in and out of Covid-19 lockdown restrictions to achieve most of their goals.

Essential Services Workforce

Our youth who make up part of the essential services workforce were delighted to be able to work throughout the lockdown periods. Being able to continue to bring in a steady income and continue to have some sense of normality was rewarding for our rangatahi.  Many of them were new to their roles and we are so proud of their resilience shown in unprecedented times.

Upskilling to be work-ready

Our youth upskilled in many areas to become work-ready.  Being work-ready mitigates barriers of employment for our clients. Examples of what our rangatahi achieved are:

  • First Aid Certification.
  • Certificate of Approval
  • Food Hygiene Certification
  • Barista Certification
  • Bar Managers licence
  • Drivers Licences,
  • Site Safe Certificates and more!

Jobs and Study

Our clients gained employment in many industries which include Hospitality, Customer Services, Healthcare, Factory, Logistics, Government, Horticulture, Construction, Food Preparation, Retail and much more.

Our clients that moved into study chose various industries to study which included Healthcare, Information Technology, Videography, Engineering, Construction, Design, Caregiving, Childcare and more.

Whilst it would be amazing to showcase each of our client’s achievements over the past year, we are limited to showing you a wee snippet. We would like to congratulate all our past and current clients on what they have achieved with and without us.

Youth week also acknowledges the work of our Youth Workers and we would like to thank our amazing team of Youth Coaches.  Each and everyone of you work extremely hard to ensure our clients are upskilled with a toolbox of skills that enables them to go on to lead safe, healthy, and happy lives.

There is one final element of “We’re Stronger Together” that we are yet to acknowledge and that is our working relationships with the Ministry of Social Development, the Ministry of Youth Development, the New Zealand Defence Force and everyone else in between.  Thank you, everyone plays a crucial part in ensuring our clients go on to achieve.

Youth Week only rolls around once year, it has been great to look back on the year that was and celebrate the successes of our clients.  We look forward to singing the praises of our clients in 2022.
